What to see and do in Glasgow- Some suggestions

When visiting a city for the first time it is often confusing to know what to see and do. Having been born and brought up in Glasgow I thought I would share some of my favourite places.

Kibble PalaceByres Road, Botanic Gardens and West End Lanes. This area is in the west of the city and is easily accessed via the tourist bus or the underground. Byres Road has an eclectic mix of small shops, restaurants and bars. On either side of the street you'll find Ashton and Ruthven Lanes, great for good food and a few drinks. In Cresswell Lane in addition to restaurants and bars there is a shopping arcade with an unusual mix of small shops. Wondering to the top of Byres Road you come to the
Kibble Palace and Botanic Gardens, well worth a visit.  If it is a nice day take a picnic and join the rest of Glasgow as it sits in the park enjoying the sunshine. If it's not so nice why not visit Oran Mor for a pie, a pint and a play.Charles Rennie MacIntosh Clock

Charles Rennie Mackintosh is a world renowned Artist, Designer and Architect and you can't visit the city without visiting some of his treasures. Two of my favourites are the House for the Art Lover and Glasgow School of Art. The House for an Art Lover was designed in 1901 however only constructed during the 1980/90's. It is a spectacular building situated within Bellahouston Park. The interior of the building is quite beautiful and shows off Mackintosh's genus. Glasgow School of Art still functions as an Art and Design School and is located in central Glasgow, just off Sauchiehall Street. Tours of the building are available and if you're lucky and the students' degree shows are on it is even more interesting, perhaps you will pick up some work from the next great modern artist.Willow Tearooms

The Burrell Collection in Pollok Park is truly world class. Sir William Burrell amassed a fabulous collection of antiquities, paintings and furniture and gifted it to the city of Glasgow. If you visit the Burrell collection remember to have a walk around the park and visit Pollok House, owned by the National Trust.
If you want to find out about Glasgow and its people, warts and all then the People's Palace in Glasgow Green is the place to go.
It relates the story of Glasgow from the 1100's to the present day. If you have had enough of museums why not just sit within the 'Winter Gardens' and imagine you are somewhere hot and exotic as you admire plants from the tropical rainforest.
